AAAC Reunion Weekend
The VCU Alumni African American Alumni Council cordially invites you to join us as we affirm our connections to one another and to our university during virtual Reunion Weekend, April 15-17. Although we won’t be able to see each other in person, the AAAC is planning a fabulous, enjoyable online experience as we continue our tradition of gathering for Reunion. Activities include:
6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 15: The AAAC Mentoring Circle will host a virtual cohort graduation and mocktail party to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2020-21 Mentoring Circle students and mentors, welcome the 2021-22 cohort and provide an opportunity for African American VCU students and alumni to network.
The goal of the evening is to provide students with strategies to be successful in this new age of virtual interviews and working remotely. The evening will include discussions on dressing for success, industry-specific Q&A breakout rooms and a keynote speaker
6-7 p.m. Friday, April 16: “Memories and Milestones,” a commemoration of the naming of the Fine Arts Building in honor of former School of the Arts Dean Murry N. DePillars, Ph.D. Join us as the AAAC hosts a School of the Arts online program in honor of Murry N. DePillars, Ph.D., dean of the School of the Arts from 1976-1995. Throughout his 20 years of leadership, VCUarts flourished, growing to become one of the largest arts schools in America with expanded performing arts facilities, city jazz festivals and high-profile fashion shows. These events — many organized largely by the dean himself — realized his goal of bringing a diverse public together. The Fine Arts Building is located at 1000 Broad St. The program will feature a virtual tour of the building, testimonials and music.
6:30-9 p.m. Saturday, April 17: Epic 2.V (virtual) Blue Lights and Red Carpet Reunion Weekend dance with DJ HyOctane and host Burt Robinson. Alumni can join one of four breakout rooms for cocktails before the dance. Door prizes and bingo.
